New Year, New Gear

Updated: May 22, 2023

Now that the New Year is upon us, many are creating new goals or resolutions to concur in 2023. If your goal is to get into streaming a video game, start a podcast, or you are looking to upgrade your equipment, this list will help you decide what you need. PC Magazine has revealed their list and they suggest some of the same equipment along with some others. There is something for everyone, from budget-friendly to a budget with more leeway.

When asked what the number one piece of equipment a streamer or podcaster should get, many well-established creators, such as Harris Heller, have said audio equipment is top of the list. Without good audio, there is a high possibility that people won't stay for your stream or podcast.

Microphones:

The Shure SM7B is a popular and well-trusted microphone among the most popular streamers and podcasters. Price: $399.00

The Blue Blackout Spark SL XLR Condenser Microphone is a personal favorite. This is a condenser mic so keep in mind that you will need a mixer. Price: $159.99

FIFINE USB Microphone is one of the best lower-priced microphones and is excellent as a starter mic. This is a bundle with a mic arm and a pop filter.

Price: $52.99

IGN.com has a great list of microphones to choose from.

While audio mixers are not necessarily required for streaming (unless you buy a condenser microphone), many streamers still pick one up to help with the audio levels of their game and their voice. Plus, there are some fun features on a few of them, such as voice changers and sound FX.

The Beacn Mixer is being hailed as one of the best mixers for streamers who use USB microphones.

Price: $199.00

The GoXLR Broadcaster is a little more advanced. While some might say it's easy to use, this mixer could be a learning curve if you don't understand audio.

Price: $499.00

These options are a great alternative if you desire to be on camera and don't have enough for a mirrorless camera. You will look great on screen with the proper lighting and adjustments in the webcam software.

The Logitech C920x HD webcam is still going strong. Released a few years ago, this webcam is still being bought by creators because of its durability and picture/video quality.

Price: $59.99

If you are looking for 4K quality, the Logitech Brio 4K Webcam is an excellent webcam. Both webcams are easy to set up, and the software is easy to use and understand.

Price: $129.00

Some pieces of equipment can add extra flare to your stream or podcast and make it easier.

The Elgato Stream Deck comes in different sizes and is great for quick transitions and setting up specific lighting in your room/studio and can be used with Adobe software.

Price range: $79.99-$249.99 (depending on the size)

The Elgato Key Lights come in different sizes as well, and there are different settings to help find the right balance for your skin tone.

Price range: $79.99-$199.99 (depending on the size)

RGB lights are a BIG part of most streamers' background and lighting setups. Govee has different types of colorful lights for your background setup. From light strips to light ropes to hexagon-shaped wall plates and everything in between.

Price range: $67.99-$199.99

Wherever you are on your streaming or podcasting journey, take it one step, day, and creation at a time.
